This initiative consists of a weekly distribution of soup, sandwiches, and other food items to the most needy in the hallway of Central Station in Brussels. Especially in winter, we also distribute blankets. To make this possible, our van leaves every Tuesday morning for an extensive drive to pick up:
Bread and/or pastry at the bakeries "Seynaeve" in Meise, "La Fleur du Pain" in Berchem, and "Panos" on the Grand Place in Brussels; all sorts of foodstuffs at "Match Foodshop" in Scheut and Stockel; Soup at "L'Auberge Pittoresque - L'autre concept" in Rhode-St-Genese
Final destination of this tour is Central Station, where many homeless and needy people are impatiently waiting for our arrival around 19:30.
The many tasks are shared by our volunteers: some serve the soup, while others distribute all sorts of food like sandwiches, bread, pastry and still others give out blankets.
While doing so, our volunteers get a chance to chat with our "friends" in order to learn more about their situation and to find out more about the evolution of their official requests and the difficulties they are trying to deal with in their daily lives.
Our help is not only for the "homeless" people: on evenings like these we also meet with people who live on a low income, are isolated or have psychological problems.
In winter, our van also goes to other places in the capital, so that other people who are very poor can also enjoy a bowl of hot soup, some sandwiches and blankets.
